weather policies
Wet weather
We understand that wet weather conditions can impact our events. We are committed to keeping our participants informed and updated in the event of weather-related issues.

From time to time, it may be wet, and we may proceed. In wet conditions, our umpires will brief teams that the level of intensity must drop to ensure the safety of all players.

We strive to provide daily updates regarding weather-related issues that may affect our events. Updates will be available on this page (below) by 10am for lunchtime matches, and by 4pm for afternoon matches.
Heat policy
We follow the recommendations outlined by Sports Medicine Australia (SMA).

Temperature at 30-33 degrees Celsius:
- Each half will be reduced to 12mins (from 13), with an extended halftime break of 4mins (up from 2)

Temperature at 34-35 degrees Celsius:
- Games will be divided into thirds, with each segment lasting 8 minutes.

Temperature at 36+ degrees Celsius:
- Our team will consider cancelling any remaining matches scheduled for the day
Preemptive decision making
At Be Active Melbourne we prioritize proactive decision making to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants. Our policy is designed to err on the side of caution, allowing for early decisions to be made to avoid unnecessary complications later in the day.

On days that may reach/exceed 36 degrees Celsius OR consistent wet weather is forecasted, scheduled events will likely be postponed. This applies universally to both our Netball and Futsal leagues, with cancellations being location dependent.

On days forecasted for either extreme heat or wet weather, scheduled events will likely be cancelled. This applies universally to both our Netball and Futsal leagues, with cancellations being location dependent. For instance, while Netball matches are held at both Flagstaff and Docklands during the earlier part of the lunchtime period, Futsal games are scheduled later. Regardless of the timing, if a decision is made to cancel, all matches are included universally.

Cancellation vs postponement
When we pre-emptively cancel a full round of matches, we always aim to reschedule this round for a later date. We prefer not to push back all remaining weeks to accommodate the missed round. Typically, these matches would be replayed the week before finals commence. This decision aims to minimise major changes to the season draw, as many teams block fixture times at the start of the season.

In cases where we must cancel and the event has already commenced, the remaining matches will end in a 0-0 draw unless we are able to replay the remaining matches for the specific round. This information will always be communicated to all teams involved.
